The Ongoing Construction of a 1/48th Scale Airforce
Below you will find a listing of all the 1/48th scale model aircraft I have built over the years. I am also producing separate Weblogs featuring each individual model kit as well as my brief review of the build highlights and end result. Hopefully you will find the content informative, inspiring & entertaining. Feel free to post a note to me on social media featuring a model aircraft that you are working on or have constructed. There is a great community of model builders there who will support your projects long after your family gets bored of your obsession with aircraft. :) - Cheers

The Original Wild One: 1/48th Tamiya F4F-4 Wildcat
The Tamiya F4F kit is reportedly still the (or one of the) best kits of the Wildcat. Low parts count, generally good fit and nice detail...

Torpedo Runner : 1/48th Monogram TBD-1 Devastator
This 1/48th Monogram TBD-1 Devastator is a very old model dating back to 1974. Surprisingly the kit is still decent enough for its age

Colourful Scooter: 1/48th Monogram OA-4M Skyhawk
Considering the inexpensive price that these Skyhawk kits can be found at, this 1/48th Monogram OA-4M Skyhawk still builds up into a respectable model

The B Side: 1/48th Hasegawa AV-8B Harrier
Depending on who you ask about this 1/48th scale Hasegawa AV-8B Harrier kit, you will hear how great or how horribly unbuildable it was...

Blue Blazers Corsair II: 1/48th Hasegawa A-7E "SLUF"
This 1/48th A-7 is one of Hasegawa’s best for fit, combined with a remarkable level of detail straight out of the box.

Gunfighter Sunset: 1/48th Hasegawa F-8J Crusader
Hasegawa's 1/48th F-8J Crusader is another of their well engineered, finely detailed products that make for a relatively stress-free build

Pacific Pappy Punch: 1/48th Otaki F4U-1A Corsair
This kit dates back to the 1970s and has some good features (especially for its time) unfortunately it also has some lacking areas

This is the old original 1/48th Monogram release of the Helldiver, 1960s vintage (not to be confused with the 1997 Pro Modeller / Revel kit)

The Monogram Tomcat has since been bested by other kits, however price considered, it still has a place in the market.

Lucky Shamrocks: 1/48th ESCI F-4J Phantom II
This ESCI F-4 kit is hard to recommend due to its deficiencies but you can make a good replica using this base

Phabulous Warlord Phantoms: 1/48th ESCI F-4J Phantom II

Phabulous Phantoms - 1/48th Monogram F-4J Phantom II
Here is another Phantom kit of Monogram's produced back in the 80s. Still a respectable kit, despite the raised panel lines.

Flight of the Intruder - 1/48th Fujimi A-6A Intruder
This kit was built from the decades old Fujimi kit and it (along with its identical twin - the Testors kit) used to be the only game in town

Screaming Eagle - 1/48th Hasegawa F-4B Phantom II (Original mold)
The Hasegawa 1/48 F-4 Phantom II series had remained the best F-4 kits for many decades. VF-51 crews downed 4 MiGs during the war.
